After numerous other job offers with various hagwons I thought all my dreams were anwered when I found a very reputable sounding school. They really do sound amazing, excellent resources, lots of career development BUT and it is a big BUTT I would have to work on public holidays, how normal is this? I would get a week's holiday but still.... |

Without providing overtime, isn't that illegal? I've never heard of that. Sounds fishy. |

Work on public holidays and only one week holiday? Doesn't sound that great to me. |

Not unheard of. It's up to you OP. You list some pros, do they outweigh the cons?
Flip side of this, slight thread derailment, how much would you be willing to sacrifice in wages for additional vacation time?
If a hagwon offered two weeks in winter AND two weeks in summer, how much less pay would you be willing to work for? How low a salary would you accept for two weeks in the winter AND a MONTH in the summer?
Curious is all.... |

Yes indeed it is a CDI, at the moment we have the choice between an iSponge in Jinhae, GnB English in Osan and a CDI in Ulsan. We were lucky enough to get offered three couple positions they all have the same pay and hours so it is hard to know which one to pick. I am guessing we should forget about CDI... |

Nothing at all wrong with working on public holidays, but if you do, they must:
a) give you day off later on in exchange for the holiday you had to work, OR
b) pay you overtime for working the holiday (and not "overtime" how the company calculates it, but actual overtime as specified by the LSA) Haven't checked in a while, maybe time and a half?
Unless they've changed things, CDI does neither. A labor complaint would be in order at that point. |

CDI is being sued over violations of labor laws, somebody posted a link here around a month ago |

Sure took them long enough to get the balls to do it.
From what I've seen of the suit's details, and what my ex-student at Labor says, CDI should lose. In a big way. |
