I had previously been recommending
http://speed.nia.or.kr/index.asp
For doing in-country speed tests. I found the results to be better than speedtest, and for the longest time speedtest.net didn't have an in-country server.
Well, ever since I've upgraded to 64 bit, the site has crashed the browser whenever I try to run a test. I've contacted them to report the issue, so we'll see if they fix it.
In the meantime if you want to run a speedtest on a 64 bit system, go to this site:
http://www.benchbee.co.kr/
You are required to create an account, but it doesn't require a citizen number. The only quirky thing is that it expects the name and nickname to be in Korean, so copy and paste a couple random Korean characters in their if you want.
The ID is english letters.
The registration is rather straightforward, minus needing to use an ID number.
once logged in, look at the pale blue menu bar go to the left most column and choose
인터넷 속도 측정
the next page is more or less auto-filled out. The only thing you might have to choose is which plan you have from your ISP, if you don't know, just leave it.
click the red button which gives you a pop-up
click the blue button on that and it'll start the test
You'll have to install an active X the first time around.
It'll run the test and you'll have your results.
This only gives you in-country speeds and Korean ISPs can't do much about clogged underseas cables unfortunately.
If you have a 32 bit system stick with the first test, it doesn't require sign-up. |
