My personal best is two $20s under my seat at the movies a long time ago. It's gonna be hard for me to top that. |

I went to a website a few months ago that tells you if you have any unclaimed money that belongs to you. I found there was $120 owed to me by the electric company from an apartment I lived in for a few months 15 years ago. |

i found a 100$ bill in my high school hallway in between classes. i was shocked that i saw it on the ground. i picked it up and debated on keeping it. shamefully to say now, i kept it. BUT, karma got the best of me. as i went home from school, i threw my glasses on the driver seat and idiotically sat on them. i had to get new glasses the next day, which turned out to be something like 102$. that was like instant karma. |

Years ago I found $5740 in a bag on the street while in university. I didn't know what to do at first, but after three weeks of doing nothing I decided to spend it. I spent over a thousand dollars on family gifts. I guess I should have felt guilty, but there was no contact info in the bag, and who the hell puts thousands of dollars in small bills in a plastic shopping bag anyway?
In Korea I've found squat but I have lost 40,000 won from my open jacket pocket one time. |

A few months after I arrived I found 37,000 on the sidewalk on my way to school.
A few months ago I lost 90,000 while walking my dog to the vet. I got to the vet realized I had lost the money.
I'm -53,000. |

50,000 bill smushed into the sidewalk on my way to uni. I didn't bother to pick it up. It was literally embedded into the concrete (didn't help that it was slightly wet that day) |

It wasn't me, but my wife found three $100 bills rolled up and bound with a rubber band back when we lived in the States in the 80s. Considering the area we lived in, it was almost certainly drug money, but I turned it in to the police. A month later, they called and my wife and I went to pick it up from the station; the cop behind the properties counter recommended my wife ditch me and the two of them go out to dinner... |

When I worked as a carnie, I used to find money on the rides all the time. Usually it was just change, like quarters and dimes, that would fall out of people's pockets. I think the most I ever found at one time was about $20. Not one customer ever returned to claim their lost money, and I worked at this carnival for three years. |

As long as it wasn't some old person's savings they'd absent mindedly dropped on their way to the bank or their grandchildren's.
I sometimes think I should have at least tried to find the owner. Because the amount was so hard to guess, I could have withheld that info until the actual owner came forward. But then again all kinds of kooks, not to mention drug dealers if in fact that is the sort of person who lost it, could come out of the woodwork and say they didn't count it exactly but that it was theirs and intimidate me to hand it over. What a mess! At the time I had just two options, keep it or turn it into the police. I was leaning toward the latter but I had a busy life and put it off, put it off, then three weeks later thought, hey, obviously no one saw me pick it up, as no one had come forward. So I slowly spent it. I was relieved when it was all gone. If I ever found a huge amount of money (in the hundreds of thousands or more) I'd turn it into the police immediately just for the peace of mind. My experience has taught me that. |

Man, finding that much money would seriously test my conscience. I think in the end, sadly, I would have done what you did, because I would have convinced myself it was some scumbag drug dealer's money. |
