i'm trying to get the ball rolling with all this rigamarole with the crimimal background check and diploma
my understanding of doing the diploma:
1) you need to have a copy of the diploma notarized
2) you need to have it apostiled
but my understanding is that you have to have it notarized in the same state you have it apostiled in. i contacted notaries in my state and they said that they cannot notarize a document through the mail, that it must be done in person. which leaves me with 2 undesirable options: 1) go back there in person [DO NOT WANT TO DO] 2) give someone in my family power of attorney to sign for me [a totally unfamiliar process to me which i'm not sure i want to do]
my questions: is it possible for me to get this done from korea without having to go back to the u.s.?
also, i've heard that this whole process of getting the diploma apostiled has been postponed until next year. is this true or just a rumor?
anyone who has sound, founded knowledge of this, your answers to these questions would be much appreciated |

Hard to scroll down the page for the other 52 similar threads?
If you are NOT in the states then you will need to get someone to do it for you.
Anyone can get a copy of your degree notarized.
They take the original and a copy to the notary.
They swear that the copy is a true copy of the original.
The notary verifies that statement, stamps and signs the copy.
The copy is then sent/taken to the secretary of state and the apostille is affixed.
Has this been delayed until 2012?
Maybe.
If you used an apostilled copy of your degree when you applied for your E2 then you may not need to do it again. If you used the original you may.
Same with your CBC.
IF you have been in Korea and are amongst the group who does need to re-submit documents then you will be given a waiver. You may do ONE extension or change of status without the new documents up till Jan. 2012. If you need a 2nd change of status you will need to submit at that time. If you change your status AFTER Jan. 2012 you will need to submit at that time.
If you want a definitive answer you will have to contact immigration for the specifics about what YOU do or do not have to submit for a renewal/extension/transfer.
IF it is a NEW visa application (doing a visa rum) you will need to submit NEW documents.

Contact your college's registrar. You might be able to send your degree to them, and they'll make a copy and notarize it for you. The registrar might even forward it to the state's state department for an apostille, if you ask nicely and send them a pre-paid airbill. |
