Yes I like Korean food, but I miss the variety of cuisines available in North America.
Regarding Korean food, I'm a little tired of main ingredients that are drenched in added flavorings. Yes, good sometimes, but it seems like everything here has an added flavor or scent (from food to paper hand towels).
Are there any good Hong Kong/ Guangzhou style restaurants in Anyang? How about Japanese? Or how about Korean food that does have this characteristic? You know, fresh food without so much seasoning.
How about other international cuisines in the Anyang area? If you're fond of any particular restaurants and would like to name them/ give their location, that would be super :) |

Hello DanseurVertical; I live in Anyang, and at least around the Beomgye/Pyeongchon area it is lacking. There is a japanese ramen restaurant in Beomgye, kind of across from the KEB bank building. For Indian, there is Kinza in Beomgye as well--although I have it on multiple opinions that really isn't very good, and you are better off going to the Kinza in Sanbon (which also isn't particularly authentic, but at lest is good). But in terms of finding anything that approximates real Chinese food, good luck finding it ANYWHERE in Korea. Despite its proximity to China, they just don't do that here.
As for a dish that is similar to Chinese food, I recommend Jjim Dalk; it is a sometimes spicy chicken dish cooked in a soy-based sauce. It has potatoes, noodles, carrots, and sometimes squash. Bibimbap can be considered a 'fresh' style dish, with little seasoning.
Good luck, and let me know if you want more details. |

There's a lamb restaurant at Anyang Station about 100 yards to the left of the main entrance to the station that is alright. Their lamb on a stick is similar to street food I had in Beijing, and they have Tsing-dao and that burny kind of Chinese liquor for the same price as Korean booze. They have other stuff too, but I've never tried it. There's a similar place at Beomgye that's more expensive and not as good.
There's a decent Turkish restaurant nearby Pyeongchon station, too. I'm sure it's not at all authentic, but their donar kebab sandwich is a really good deal and the place is nice on the inside.
Going to Ansan station might give you better results without having to go to Seoul. |
