I bought a couple of dimmer switches in Canada and they have three wires coming out.
the light switches in my apartment have two thick wires.
I tried all kinds of combinations attaching the three to the two but no joy.
does anyone have electrical knowledge? |

Hi Ed,
I believe most switches are rated for voltage and Hz.
Canada uses 120v at 60Hz
South Korea uses 220v at 60Hz
I believe that dimmer switches are rated for a certain voltage. I also know that most dimmer switches are meant for incandescent bulbs. You may have these, but there seems to be a lot of florescent bulbs in Korea. If you're running florescent bulbs on a dimmer, the bulbs have to be rated for dimming.
I hope this helps a little bit.

What colors are the wires?
As far as using them here, read the rated voltages. If they are rated for 220, use them.
The wires you have should be 2 black and 1 green. The black wire are the ones that carry the power and the green would be a neutral. Hook up your black wires to the wires coming out of the wall and you're done. The neutral is important for safety, but if you don't have a neutral to hook to, nothing you can do about it. |
