I'm a little worried that the rural school that I'm at will not get GEPIK funding next year for a teacher.
I really like my school and location and could never imagine teaching at a giant school with 200 kids.
Is it possible to request another rural location since they're not really sought after? |

come to hwa Seong!
Tons of Rural schools here that need teachers.
Hwa Sung City hall funds GEPIK programme here so no need to worry about funding cuts for a long time.
But pray that you never endup in Jebu |

Jebu-do is a great place if you don't mind the road being closed twice a day during high tides. Lots of seafood on offer.

Well..I'm currently in a Gyeonggi city that's even more rural than Hwaseong (around the same size area wise, but 1/3 of the population, and there are no subway lines or highways) and that hasnt stopped them from cutting teachers from schools that "need" them.
I will definitely check it out though! Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to apply to GEPIK and EPIK to cover my bases.
Please dont call it the EPIK Programm(E) lol. Leave the pretentious spellings to the Japanese EFLers. |

Just don't go to Anseong. That place is unpleasant, school-wise and city-wise, according to bunch of NETs I met.
Oh yeah, for the positive advice. The next door neighborhood called Pyeongtaek is decent. |

Don't apply thru GEPIK you will never end up in the place you want to.
I got a contact here at the city hall. I can give you her contact info if you want to come to Hwa Seong next hiring season. |

I dont want rural because I want to live in the country.
I want rural because I like smaller schools...plus the extra money and vacation days that GEPIK gives for "rural" are nice too. |

Hwaseong is a really large area. You're probably in Dongtan or Byeongjeom, which are the more urbanized parts of Hwaseong. |

Rural schools in Gyeonggi-do are often the most mismanaged. I've seen some GEPIK teachers working in rural areas complaining. It's not that good. |

I currently work at a rural school in Gyeonggi-do so maybe I just lucked out as its ran quite well.
Are rural schools usually nightmares? I personally like the freedom I've been given in regards to making lesson plans and activities.
I really dont know if I should apply to work in the city or stay in the country. I dont feel like being forced to do a song and dance act. |

It will be interesting to see how this 'free lunch' scheme will pan out in Gyeonggi-do. Some schools are going to lose their English teachers. |
