Following the interesting link on another post (regarding rock climbing); does anyone know where one could find information on spelunking in Korea?

I tried doing a google search but couldn't come up with anything really substantive.

Thank you in advance!

I've been caving around Taebaek and Sokcho. Near Sokcho there are a lot of organised day tours. Around Taebeak there are some popular caves that the hikers like to visit.

I'm sure with Korea's topography there are plenty of places to do it...my primary concern would be with safety and standards, though.

Nice, thank you for the note.
I'll have to see if I can find more information; but now that I at least have areas it's helpful!

I had assumed (and hoped) so as well.
Would their safety standards be so low?

Caves near Sokcho? Maybe you meant to say Samcheok.

There are a lot of caves near Samcheok. That's possibly where I was thinking of. Now that I look at the map though I see that it's quite a ways down the coast from Sokcho. I did visit at least one cave at Seorak-san, which IS very close to Sokcho. The others may have been near Samcheok though and I just didn't pay attention to the distance.

Anyway, both of these locations (and Taebaek) are in Gangwon-do. They appear on the tourist map so you could probably get more information from calling the Gangwon provincial office.

Here's Samcheok
