|
|
I did a midnight runner because of personal reasons. School had no idea. I was there for over 6 months, so did not break any contract rules regarding airfare repayment or anything. I cleaned my apartment (had a room mate) and told the room mate not to say anything. She didn't say anything and I left my phone, keys and anything that was already in the apartment in the room.
My former room mate emailed me and told me the school is still charging me for my cell phone since I was on a monthly plan contract. I was told the phone was in the schools name, but I do remember having to sign something. Should I be worried about them charging me? I will never be back to Korea for working purposes and more than likely never for tourism as well.
A little piece of mind would be helpful as I am pretty sure they cant do anything and the school has to pay it since they are my cosigners and the contract is probably in their name.
I think the only reason they are telling my former room mate this (school does not have my email address) is because the director saw me the day I was leaving Korea which was 3 days after the last day I showed up to work.
Any information would be helpful. I scoured the forum but couldn't find anything about a cell phone contract. Thank you. |

You are free and clear. There is nothing they can do to you. You are out of Korea and, therefore, out of their jurisdiction. And no, they won't sic Interpol or anything on you, so you have nothing to worry about. |

Well, you only have to worry in about 40 years when the bill gets to be over a few million dollars and the laws have changed so all bills are billed worldwide and enforced with futuristic Judge-Dredd-style police. But then again, a few million dollars will just buy you a coca-cola, so you're probably on the safe side. |

They now have your I.P. address. Two Korean men will be outside your house shortly trying to collect. |

Be careful: if Korea has an agreement with Homeland Security, you might be held as a suspected terrorist. |

Have you noticed that unmarked Bongo truck that's been patrolling your neighborhood recently? If it pulls up alongside you on a dark night when no one is around.... RUN! |

Although there is nothing they can do to you....is it fair of you to leave them on the hook for that contract/bill?
I can see if they screwed you out of money, but if they didn't do anything to you, it's not really fair to leave them to pay for that bill.
It doesn't matter how many other hagwon owners have screwed other NETs. If your employer gave you a fair deal, what you're doing isn't right.
Also, if you ever plan to come back to Korea, it could hurt your chances getting a future cellphone contract. |
