i was wondering if anyone knows of a well equipped gym with things such as free weights up to 40 kg (in at least 2.5 kg increments) and a squat rack (or at very least a smith machine), and maybe even a punching bag would be nice...but i may be wishing for too much there...anyways any input is greatly appreciated:)

There are a few, but most of them are upwards of 180-200 dollars a month. Are you willing to spend that much? Otherwise the best places you find might have a small set of very light free weights, a few weight machines, and 10,000 treadmills and elipticals.

Most of the buildings that have the Koreanized words of "Health Spa/헬스 스파" are gyms. But as far as haggling goes, I've never heard of anyone having success, because it's usually a contractual thing, not a pay-as-you-go. You'd be better off buying a set of adjustable plate dumbbells and a bench, with plenty of extra weight. Korean apartments are small, but not too small. I used to work out at home and I did just fine.
