Hey guys,
Just got my new PC built last weekend, pretty happy with what I ended up with.
Question about the case though. I got this case:
http://blog.danawa.com/prod/?prod_c=1101750&cate_c1=861&cate_c2=879&cate_c3=990&cate_c4=0
I had read a couple good reviews on the case, and the dude I was talking to had a pretty poor selection. Regardless, case seems pretty solid and it's working quite well.
I have a question about the fans, however. It has 2 120mm exhaust fans on the top panel, and 1 120mm exhaust fan on the back, directly behind where the cpu cooler in my build is. There is an intake fan in the front.
There is also one extra fan that has been installed inside the case itself, directly under the video card, blowing up. I looked at the instructions for the case, and it does show to have that fan sitting there. The way the fan is positioned, it's pretty much directly under the video cards cooling fan, which is blowing down, while the case fan is blowing up.
My question is, should I leave it like this? It would be a real simple matter to spin it so it blows downward instead, away from the video card, but then it's blowing warm air from the video card directly at the power supply.
I think it's also possible to rig up the fan on the side of the case, as either an intake or an exhaust, should I do that instead? |

Your video card fan is blowing down? Are you sure?
Which kind of video card do you have? The 'blower' kind? They blow the air through a heatsink enclosed in a plastic casing and then hopefully out the vent at the end where the DVI connects are.
Maybe it's a fan blowing onto a heatsink which is mounted on the GPU chip.
Either way, neither type actually blow down to the bottom of the case.
So your bottom mounted case fan blowing up towards the video card is well-placed and useful. |

Video card fans are intake. They push air towards their own GPU. Then, depending on the card casing, they either blow it out the back of your computer, or they dump it in your case.
So the way it's currently set up isn't hurting anything, but for GPU temps it's usually better to have an extra fan blowing across them, towards the back. Ideal position is behind the HDD tray if you get my meaning.
Anyways, unless you are SLI / xfire or overclocking the shit out of it, GPU temps aren't a huge issue if the case has decent airflow overall. |

Ahhhh ok, that makes more sense knowing that the gpu fan is blowing towards the card, not away from it.
Thanks guys |
