Hello, I just had a few questions. The first one is a two part question.
Questions:
1. When I receive my apostilled CBC back, should I take all of my documents and fly to Seoul? I have a friend there, I can stay with him for free while I look for a job. This would be great, but if I find a job, how do I obtain a visa? Some Americans say you *have* to be here in the states to attend an interview etc. Others speak of a Visa run to Japan. What's the latest on this? (Note: I have never taught anywhere overseas, I've never applied for a visa of any sort either. I have enough funds to last for 4-6 months of modest living assuming I won't be paying rent).
2. Can I get my Criminal Background Check apostilled by the State of CA rather than sending it to Washington DC? This could save time.
Thanks in advance,
angrypirate

| Just to clear it up, I have the following: apostilled Diploma, sealed Transcripts, a valid passport. I do not have the federal Criminal Background Check (should be receiving it soon, but even when I receive it, I will still have to get it apostilled). |

You must have an interview at a consulate in your home country to receive your first visa. Visa runs to Japan (or other 3rd countries) are for subsequent visas.
This means you will have to go back to the US if you come here to find a job. The closest (and probably cheapest) piece of the US is Guam. |

Wow. Thanks. Looks like Seoul to Guam roundtrip is a $600 flight plus accommodations. It seems going to Seoul before finding a job is getting quite expensive. I'll probably stick around and not go to Seoul first. Unless someone knows a cheaper way to Guam, I calculate a $800 one-way flight from the US to Seoul, plus a $600 flight from Seoul to Guam roundtrip for the visa, that's near $1,500 already.
Can anyone answer this one:

Now I've read employers cover that roundtrip flight to Guam given that they would've flown you in from the US initially, that makes sense since it is a cheaper flight. Thoughts? |

| You can get it apostilled by the California Secretary of State's office. Most people send their documents to their respective Secretary of State's office. I've never heard of anyone sending it to the federal government to get an apostille. |

Thanks. Great news -- the CBC just arrived at my parents' house today. I will be flying back to California on Wednesday (I'm in the Midwest right now).
Should I drive it to Sacramento for the apostille? Can I do it same day? |

Thanks guys. I'll either mail it on Monday or drive it when I arrive in California Wednesday.
