Hi guys
At home I'm fairly active and ususally go to the gym 3,4 or 5 times a week. Tonight I called into the new gym at the Metapolis centre in Dongtan as I really want to get signed up somewhere soon. It looked pretty sweet, lots of free weights, small running track and its brand new. The only problem is the price. They only do 3, 6 or 12 month memberships. The 3 month membership is 417,000 won. I didnt ask about the others. To me this seems a bit expensive. What do you guys think?

pretty pricey methinks

In my apartment complex I got a deal at a gym for 10k/month. It's real basic, but has all the machines and as many plates as I need. Dumbbells only up to 20kg though.

There's another cheap place a friend of mine recommended, but I can't remember it for the life of me now...

She said a lot of foreigners go there...I'll get back to you if I remember.

Well it must be brand new. I was in Dongtan when it was still being built and metapolis was still only a few stories high.

Ask about the yearly rate as it might be much cheaper. It will be worth it if the cost is 700k for the year. That being said, if its not much cheaper dont pay over 100k per month. Also, since you never know what will happen with jobs, try not to splurge too much on long memberships. I assume other gyms are now around Dongtan for much less. Ask coworkers or your boss. I paid 35k per month in Suwon for a decent gym, including squash, towel service etc. Also, many gyms are small and located in hard to find corners of office buildings. Just look around a bit and you'll find something cheaper.

it might look good on the outside, but you are paying for them having to pay to have it inside metapolis enter 6 building in the first place. I have lived in Dongtan for over a year now and il help you with this problem. If you are wanting to go somewhere with EVERYTHING then stay there and pay that huge amount. However depending on what you want and are looking for, there is plenty of places around. I go to I Park gym. its in the small courtyard of I park. It costs 240,000 for a year. and 3 months is 60,000 (70,000 if you pay by credit card). I pay every 3 months 70 (because i use locker rental which is 10,000/3 months) there is also multiple gyms with saunas and bigger areas for anywhere from 45 - 80,000 a month.
that is your best bet
