apart from the obvious- finding a new teacher for a school- what other things are they expected to do in terms of the relationship between teacher and school?

What exactly a recruiter does and is expected to do can be 2 different things depending on the recruiter.

I think, given the amount of empty-promises out there and horror stories, that one should only expect them to broker a contract between a school and a teacher. Anything after-service or ongoing beyond that is a plus. Including assisting in any contract disputes in the future. There are many that will remain in the picture for the year, but there are many, many that dramatically reduce their involvement after their recruitment fee is settled.

Most look at their job is finished after the contract is signed and your E2 is secured, so I think that as a teacher, one should not hold out for much else and that you are going to have to fend for yourself from that point on.

Just don't ever send/give a recruiter your original university degree.
A notarized photocopy will do.

I would have to add that if the recruiter was an English teacher, you will probably get better service.
