Any whizzes out there can give me a hand?

I have utorrent on my mac. I have my port forwarding setup correctly in both utorrent and on my router. However, my download and upload speed is awful. It is set to unlimited in utorrent. My firewall is also setup to allow utorrent.

In utorrent, I have set outgoing encryption to enabled (I heard this might help trick my ISP into not limiting bandwith), I am NOT randomizing ports, and I am not automatically mapping (not sure if that matters or not, when I changed that setting, it didn't do anything).

My connection is "working". Yet, I get a download speed of between 0-4kb/second. Usually 0. The files I try to download usually have quite a few peers and many seeds...so it's not like there is no one trying to upload it.

Any ideas? What info do you need to help me out?

And this has been going on since before the earthquake, so it can't be slowed down because of that.

Are you downloading from a tracker which was fast before? Do you get many peers for each torrent?

Download speed is almost all about who is seeding to you.

My utorrent speeds went to poop recently after the Japan quake. Do you have KT internet? I barely can download anything until I get lucky enough to get someone on my list that is probably in Korea and has the same movie or whatnot. Then I'm suddenly in the Mbps range.

I'm pretty sure it's something to do with my ISP.

For example, right now I am trying to download s02e18 of Modern Family and I have over 21000seeds and 1000 peers. Yet it isn't even downloading. My connection status is green.

With Transmission, it DOES matter that you 'automatically map' your ports, but i don't know how Utorrrent works.

I suggest turning off all downloads and use the link below to see if your ISP is throttling your internet connection:

If everything checks out, why not try Transmission instead of Utorrent in order to see if it's actually the client that is acting up.

How many connections are permitted on each torrent? I had a problem the other day where there were 2100 seeds and I wasn't downloading as fast as I though I should, but I had maximized out the connections--something easily changed in the preferences.

I think it is at the default 50 connections per torrent. I am assuming the number in parentheses is the number of connections? In that case, there are 21000 seeds but I only connect to like 20 of them. And even then, it's slow as all get out.

After running that speed test, it told me my ISP is throttling my bandwith for torrents...

It is a public tracker. Do you think it is because most of the people I am connected to are probably a long ways away?

No, that's not it. If you're on TPB or eztv and downloading that show you should have enough peers here in Korea.

Check both the connection maxes for a single torrent (which you said was at 50 by default) and for uTorrent overall.

Why are you using uTorrent on your Mac? I love it on PC, but Transmission is a much nicer Mac client, IMO.

Are you sure that port forwarding is setup correctly?

I would check that first and foremost since it is the most likely problem.

Other than that, what trackers are you trying to download from? Some are notorious for allowing partial seeding which will severely limit your DL and UL.

I have never set up port forwarding on a Mac, but a quick google search turned up this site:
