I signed up for Astrill VPN. I'm listening to Pandora RAdio on my Iphone. The VPN worked great using Wifi and 3G.
I haven't tried it with Google Voice yet.
Youtube videos over 3G are loading much faster. I suspected youtube was throttled by Korean ISP's.
Great investment. Only costs $5.50 a a month. |

Have you connected to the VPN via your desktop? How are the download speeds?
Edit: I just signed up for a free 7 day trial, so I'll try it out for myself. Cheers. |

I will be downloading this when i get home.
Can I use my username on multiple computers? Or would I have to buy two accounts so I could use it on my laptop too? |

Ya, you can use it on multiple computers but not at the same time. Or so it appears as I had an error message pop up about being logged in somewhere else.
On the iPhone, it seems to be working alright. No problems with Pandora Radio. But on my desktop, its ssllloooww. Hulu wasn't really working - play then buffer, play then buffer. I tried a few different servers, but wasn't having much luck. I'll try some more this weekend, but so far I'm glad I didn't pay for it. |

In your Settings. "Advanced" there should be a setting to optimize video streams or something.
Check that, and see if your speeds improve. Astrill's support is pretty helpful and they reply to your emails within a couple hours. Shoot them an email and tell them Hulu is running slow and see if they can give you some help. |

I don't think you'll be able to--nor would you want to--torrent via a VPN. I have software on my HTPC, and all my torrents stop seeding when I put it on (or downloading, for that matter.) |

Ok, so I've got Hulu working perfectly now. Must say, pretty damn please with everything. I've seen speeds up to 500KB/s when buffering, so no not great for torrents but for streaming its great so far. |

I tried and tried to download Astrill and it just wouldn't let me order it. It kept freezing up on me. So, I gave up and purchased strong VPN.
It's great. There tech service is awesome. They helped me choose the quickest server in the US from Korea. The internet speed test (VPN on) was around 2 Mbps. Not near as fast as without the VPN, but it loaded a Netflix movie and did not pause once during play.
I also set it up on my wife's and my iphone. Netflix and Pandora worked flawlessly. |

I've been using Astrill VPN for a few months now on my desktop (and iPhone a little) and it seems pretty good. On my desktop, I can watch Hulu on the highest quality with now problems. If one server is slow for some reason you can easily switch to another via the connection app. I've never had any issues so haven't had a reason to try customer support, except when i ordered it i chatted with them via their website chat thing which they answered straight away.

Thanks for this.
I was using VPN4ALL way to much buffering on Hulu.
Also although I purchased the service 12 hours before I contacted there so called "Live Support", good luck trying to get a refund.
Astrill has no buffering problems so far, wish I had read this before.
Thanks |

I've been strongly suspecting this for a couple of years too.
Are they all in it together in some big conspiracy though? Is there an alternative Korean video streaming network they want to promote? It doesn't make much sense to me.
But if you get better streaming over a VPS, which is hitting the same cables anyway, it does imply deliberate throttling of Youtube.
On a somewhat related note, do the Korean email providers still habitually block hotmail, yahoo and so on? That was a massive annoyance in 2003/4 when I was trying to get my first job here and all my emails were being rejected. |

Something's fishy with youtube. Up until three years ago, it worked fine, you clicked on a video and watched it real time. Now, I inevitably have to preload to be able to watch a video without it stopping every few seconds to buffer.
It wasn't a gradual process either. I remember it working fine one week, then choppy as hell the next.
I call shenanigans! |

Agree.
Using a vpn however it's smooth sailin with youtube...
Really how can that be? I have a 60MB connection with my ISP in Korea and a 5MB connection using a VPN. BS |
