Go to AAA.com. They can tell you everything you need to know. |

You have to get your international license from the country that issued your driver's license. You can only get an international license in Korea if you already have a Korean license. Otherwise you'll have to get it from your home country. |

Can I use my home country license to get a Korean license, and then use that to get an international license?
I thought international licenses were quite a bit more than 7K won back "home." |

You should be able to convert your home license to a Korean one and I'm sure you can find plenty of threads about how to do that...
An international license in the UK is only a few pounds...so not expensive there either....has to be done in person though |

If you're from the states you will have to turn in your US license first, get your vision checked there, then take a (computerized) multiple-choice driving safety exam in English in order to get your Korean license. The English is a little messed up so it's hard to understand exactly what they are asking or what the options are. For the most part it is common sense stuff though and if you take your time you should be ok. I didn't study and passed on my first try.
They give you your Korean license, then you can get the int'l license.
*sidenote: They hold your home country license....and will give it back to you when you leave Korea. I went to the states for a visit last Christmas and had to show them my flight info/passport, etc and they gave me my US license back, but also did not require that I return my Korean license....so I now have both. I think it's kind of crappy that they keep your native country license anyway....I mean, what if you have to leave in case of an emergency? |
