My fiance and I just got an offer from Jay at OK recruiting for a this hagwon in Suwon... has anyone heard of them or worked for them?

The recruiter says they placed a couple last year and got positive feedback. The school has been in operation since 2006.

Firstly you need to speak to the couple and find their views.

Are they finishing their contracts?

Was the school hot in summer and cold in winter?

Were they paid on-time?

Was the director reasonable, particularly in dealings with the man?

How many different Korean teachers did they work with?

Were they teaching only vocabulary?

Did they get their contracted holidays (btw 12 days is the minimum in the 1st year)?

Did they get pension and health insurance?

Was tax being deducted at 3.3% or the correct lower rate?

These questions should be asked of any hagwon.

for sure, thanks for the input.

i will certainly ask these questions. The recruiter told me that I will need to get contact information for current and past teachers from the school director, not from OK. not sure if that's standard, but we'll see once I speak with the director for our interview.

Taking security deposits is illegal.

The Labour Board can be called on 1345 from any phone.

Tennishar she must give you 1 months notice or pay you in lieu of notice. Also if you haven't been provided with written warnings you will have a beautiful case for wrongful dismissal.

Good luck

The questions on my earlier post are useful to ask the current teacher.

You may want to add, does the school withhold an illegal security deposit and ask what the school is doing about Saturday classes.

Good luck!

Wrong BF.

Withholding security deposits is perfectly legal as long as it was included in your contract or even if you agree to it in writing at a later date but before they are withheld.

Written warnings may or may not be required depending on what your contract states and what the reasons are for dismissal.

30 days notice or pay in lieu is generally required, but not in all cases.
