|
|
I'm planning on being in Seoul for the Hi Seoul Festival next weekend (May 8-9). It looks like a lot of events are happening near City Hall, so that's where I want to get a room. Does anyone know of a hostel or yogwan I can stay that's between 30,000-40,000 won? A telephone number, or any information would be great. Thanks.

[quote:"From the website above:"]*Korean Wave White Night Festival will be a street festival held at night to show the dynamism and diversity of Seoul. Korean Wave White Night in Seoul will be held from 5:00 pm May 8th to 8:00 am the next day at the City Hall Plaza and around the central Seoul area.
*Prior to the the Korean Wave White Night Festival, the street cheering of the 2002 World Cup will be reenacted.[/quote]
Ah great, more World Cup stuff. Wasn't the rebroadcast last summer enough.

One yogwon I know of at Jonggak Station (one stop from city hall on line 1) is the Dong-il. Go out exit 2 og Jonggak station, stay on Jongno Street when you come to the first street(alley) there is a pharmacy on the corner (its past English +) turn right there go up to the Seoul Hotel, next to it there is a chicken resturant and an walk/alley that leads to the Seoul Hotel Sauna. The Dong-il is the first of the 2 yogwons on the right.
Phone # (02) 732-0855, 732-1227 though the ajumas speak very little english. COst is 30,000 won/nite
Place is nice, small though and the ajumas are used to way-gooks, we stayed there most times we came to Seoul.
If you want to spend 50-60,000 i suggest the Kaya Hotel 2 stops the other way on the #1 line at Namyong station

The world's most popular city festivals include Rio de Janeiro's Carnival in February and Munich's Oktoberfest. Local organizers hope the Hi Seoul Festival, though in its infancy, becomes the premier festival in Northeast Asia.

Bwahahahaa! Fat chance. But what a catchy name. I wonder if someone won a prize for coming up with that winner. |

from the same article dutchman quoted:
Quote: |
Last year 750,000 attended the festival and this year 3 million visitors are expected |
OK and if 3 million people show up I'll believe the moon landing never occured, the moon is made of green cheese and W actually won Florida
I nearly fell out of my chair when I read that one.
any bets on how many actually show up? |

went to it this afternoon down at city hall and over to Insadong
one word: lame, though we did find the eros musuem in Insadong, that was interesting from a historical standpoint. There didn't seem to be much special going on in Insadong either
the food fair was 3 types of Korean food, what a joke!!!!!
maybe we mis-timed it but from it appeared, it seemed very limited and not many English speaking people there to help out, nor where there many foreigners there |

I agree with Rudy.
I went on Children's Day and although there were activities for the kiddies, I found the schedule confusing, which also was only in Korean I believe.
I guess the performances and the light show were at night.
Wed. must have been a slow day for them. Perhaps most of the stuff was held on the weekends.
I would have liked to see a venders area with food and games.
