I found this site, http://www.gks.go.kr/ It's through NIIED. Basically they have some programmes that will give you scholarships to study Korean.
KGSP is one year of Korean before you do an undergrad, grad, or PhD programme. Tuition is free, you get a living allowance, settlement allowance, repatriation allowance, medical insurance and other benefits. I'm not sure if you can apply while in Korea though.
KGSF: is for self financing students. They give you 500,000 a month for living allowance. They say you have to apply directly to universities. I've emailed them for more info. |

PhD is a grad program
You get 900k won per month but you have to pay the dorm fee. There is a mandatory 1 year of korean during which you are also paid. You can apply while in Korea but you won't get the plane ticket AFAIK.
I applied this year for the grad KGSP and passed the first round. Second and third rounds will be out in the upcoming weeks/months. For Canada there is 1 spot for Quebec and 1-2 spots for the rest. You have to be recommended by the consulate (and the Quebec ministry of education if applying in Quebec), however there is little to no competition as I was the first applicant. |

Yep, I know, but wanted to throw that out there anyways.
I'm looking at the self financing one. Anyone done that? |

Try facebook groups. The NIIED Scholars group is pretty potent for KGSP info, I assume there are similar groups for the KGSF? |
