Long story short, I have been employed at a hagwon in Ulsan for the last 3 years, signing contracts every March. Prior to signing my contract in March 2011 the manager (as he has always done) said that if I wanted to leave earlier I just have to give him notice to find another native speaker. So we found another teacher, and I am leaving at the beginning of June.
To cover myself given the job situation in Australia, do I need a letter of release if I decide to come back and work in Korea prior to March 2012? Or is it a simple case of going to immigration cancelling this E2 visa, and I would be free to return before March 2012 without dramas regarding letter of release etc. |

As long as you turn in your ARC when you leave, your visa will be cancelled and you wont need the letter of release should you choose to return before next March. |

Why doesn't he need a letter of release? |

Because he's not transferring to a new job right away. He's leaving korea to go home for an extended period of time. When he leaves and turns in his ARC, his visa will be cancelled and he'll need to do a fresh application for a new E-2. You only need a letter of release to start (transfer to) a new job when you are still covered under a previous visa. |
