I dont live close to any place that offers Korean language courses and I recently saw that Yonsei offers some lectures online.

Has anyone taken these? Are they any help?

I am using the Yonsei textbooks and I like them (for the most part) so I was considering taking the online course as well but I dont want to waste 100,000W.

I tried calling the number but the person only spoke Korean and my Korean is still at a pretty low level. Crying or Very sad

I think it could be quite a useful resource, but it doesn't seem like there is a live teacher at all. I could be wrong. It looks like just a computer program. I don't think I would pay that much per month unless I lived out in the country with no classes around--so it might be a worthwhile option for you. There are classes in Seoul for a similar price, but with a live teacher (and classmates to practice with).

If I were you, I would get a textbook with English explanations and use language exchange websites like sharedtalk.com to practice with Koreans through Skype.

I got the Yonsei Textbook at the main(?) Kyobo bookstore in Gangnam. It's Level 1 Korean. Its two oversized paperback books and 2 cds. What I like about the book is how little English it uses (I'm learning vocabulary faster). What I dont like is how little English it uses (grammar are a paragraph at the end of the chapter).

I'm guessing this book is a lot more useful if you use it in a course, but I prefer it to the book I was previously using (Integrated Korean - Hawaiian Press) That book was good...but moved REALLY slow. Several chapters and I knew a lot of vocabulary but almost no grammar!

I hear what you're saying about learning not enough grammar, but I was in a class once where all I seemed to learn was grammar and not enough vocabulary!! I ended up talking about iced tea nearly every time I said something! Razz

If you want to practice/study grammar, look no further than "Korean Grammar in Use."

It covers all grammar for TOPIK Levels 1 and 2.

I just wish it had more practice exercises or even a workbook.

I bought it at the Kyobo Bookstore in Jongno for 21,000W.
