Hey, I was planning on going to Japan this June before the earthquake/radiation.
Would I be crazy to go in the middle of June for 3-4 weeks and tour around the country? Obviously I would avoid the north-east. I want to see pretty much all the main cities, including Tokyo. What would it be like around the Tokyo area? I heard that people were fleeing there not too long ago.
damn earthquake! |

The media is overhyping things a bit, afaik the tokyo area's pretty much back to normal, albeit with rolling blackouts (is this still going on?) |

Yeah, Nihon has beeen shaking, baking and rattling these days. I wouldn't worry about it though. Just make sure to brush up on your Para Para and consult the most recent editions of Bang Sister, EGG, and Popteen magazines before you head over. |

Yes, go. Plenty of posts over on ThornTree about this people who are travelling around Tokyo and further South at the moment are all having a great time.
Obviously you wont see many other tourists though, many people are too scared to come. |

I live in Osaka. Everything is fine here.
I'd cross Fukushima off the list, but anywhere else throughout the rest of the country should be fine. I'd think Sendai might even be interesting just to see how they clean up post-tsunami is doing.
Most of the country, however, is completely unaffected. |

Japan is steaming bloody hot from June - September. The humidity is incredible. Shorts, T-shirt and flip flops are the best way to travel during the summer. |

This.
When I read "would I be crazy to go to Japan in June", I assumed you were talking about the weather. I've been three separate times during summer, and every time I've quickly wondered what the hell I was thinking. |

You're right guys. I've decided to delay Japan until the fall, probably October, which I hear is real nice.
One more question for anyone with any experience going to Japan. What order should I travel the country in? I'm planning on spending about 3 weeks there. I want to hit up as many of the main cities as possible. Where should I start? |
