So recently, I was accepted back into school in Canada and therefore have to leave my contract exactly 8 days early. I had an unspoken agreement with my boss and recruiter that I would be able to leave from Sept 1-6 because of the expectation of possibly being accepted into school (which I was) and the contract officially ends on Sept 7th.
I told my boss last friday the day that I need to leave slightly early and she didn't really say anything. On monday she called the recruiter and I talked to her, just saying that my boss and I need to work things out with the contract and what bonus I would actually receive because the law is apparently on the side of the employer in this case.
I had a discussion with my boss and she offered 70% of my final months pay, bonus and flight which I don't believe is correct because the agreement that my boss "thought" we had was that I would work until Sept 2nd. So I'll be leaving 3 days before my contract is up.
Since my boss offered the 70%, I haven't seen her at the school so I sent an email yesterday morning to the recruiter saying that I wanted 90% of my bonus and 100% of my flight but I would settle for the 70% salary. Since then, I've received no response whatsoever and still haven't seen my boss.
I know this sounds retarded but does anyone have any input on what I should/could do? I'm going to stand strong on my offer and my boss can't avoid me forever so at this point I'm just looking for some options if anyone has any idea how to help me deal with this sudden avoidance.
Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance! |

if you do not complete a full year they are not obligated to pay you severance at all. |

Talk to your school in Canada. Perhaps you can start a little late. You're not going to miss too much.
Another idea is if you have any vacation left. If not, you could trade in a few Saturdays in lieu of an early leave.
As to your rights. Your director can not withhold pay you have worked for. If you have been there more than a year you are entitled to severance. Since you are not completing your contract your boss doesn't have to give you the airfare. So you are lucky she's agreed to that. |
