I am totally hard for this phone. :p
So many questions about getting one in Korea. Here are the main ones any insight would be appreciated.
I am currently on SK and I use a GSM phone so I obviously have a SIM card. If I can get the new LG phone from SKT can I transfer my SIM between the devices or do they somehow attach the SIM to the phone by IMEI or some other unique number? If so I will need to unlock the phone or the SIM? Other options?
As a white boy with an E-2 Visa will they even let me buy this thing? I'm talking purchase outright in cash no contract no nothing never. JUST CASH!!!
Cell phone stars, get at me with the fine points!! |

Yes to both questions. You can simply swap the sim, and you can buy it without a contract. The non-contract price is around 1 million won. |

You can also buy it on a two year contract even if you don't have a two year visa, which will make it a lot cheaper. |

this phone is getting subpar reviews around the interwebs.
i would personally wait for the Galaxy S II coming out in a month or two.

I have the Optimus 2x and have been very happy with it. Maybe I'm not a demanding user, but I've found the phone to be fast, the screen to be nice and haven't had any real problems with it other than the ones I've caused myself. I'd recommend the phone |

I have had my 2x for about a month now, and so far it has been great. There was a software update released after I bought it, and once I downloaded that onto my phone, it seemed to work a bit faster and now has a longer battery life.
I bought mine through an Internet retailer, so it was cheaper, 63,000 a month total for unlimited usage on a 2 year contract. |

By unlimited usage do you mean unlimited 3g? How many minutes and SMS?
Are online retailers much cheaper than the hundreds of phone shops in any given neighborhood? |

I've had mine for about the same amount of time and incredibly happy with it. I've used some other smart phones and the 2x definitely seems faster. As for battery life...well, if I'm using it from morning until night, I usually need to charge it or change the battery, but that's after a good 6~8 hours of moderate to heavy usage. |

Thanks for the info everybody.
The Galaxy S II Looks great but seems to be lacking an HDMI out. I to have read some unsavory things about the Optimus 2x but they were issues on phones prior to an official release and I think they (LG) have worked out the kinks.
Knowing I can buy this on a two year contract with a one year visa is awesome, definitely make it a lot cheaper.
Any chance of getting more information about the online retailer? |

The Motorola Atrix, which is based on the same SOC as the Optimus 2x (Tegra 2) is also available in Korea (or soon will be, i've seen displays of it at the SK stores). That may be worth checking out too. |

There's no demand whatsoever for keypad phones in Korea. Koreans love the touch screen. There have been a small handful of keypad Android phones in Korea but they've all more or less failed to sell. I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for a new high-end keypad phone coming to Korea. |
