Some feet emit a pungent odor. When you walk around in your socks you are also collecting everything that other person has on theirs - not to mention everytime your hands touch the floor.

Before I go to a restaurant like that I usually change my socks for the benefit of others around me. Especially in the summer when I am wearing my leather work shoes.
I suppose if you are going to sit on the floor it is better to walk around in your socks than the alternative (shoes). I always make use of the sanitary wet nap they give me at the beginning of meals. I also don't use my hands to get up off the ground, just my legs. |

I'm more of a garbage bin restaurant person. Where the meat is cooked over a makeshift oil drum converted into a table. Those places have the beast charcoal cooked meat. |
