My wife and I will be travel to the US for a couple of days this summer. She has a valid US visa (undamaged etc) in an expired passport. Any information I've come across online says to bring the old passport (as the visa cannot be transferred) and the new one and show them at the point of entry. Has anyone had first hand experience in regards to this? |

I was in the same situation, but it was an expired US passport and Korean re-entry stamps. I had no problems leaving and re-entering Korea. I showed my valid stamp in the expired passport and my new passport.
Of course, I don't know if it would work the same way with a Korea passport and a US visa. |

You are aware that Korea is now on the visa waiver program?
Do the ESTA and no visa required (up to 90 day stays).

No I didn't, I'm Canadian so I never payed attention to that. I read on the US Embassy website from Dublin that you should bring both passports. and according to the ESTA website you cannot be in possession of a valid visitors visa.

Apply for an Authorization to Travel to the United States
Select this option if:
You are a citizen or eligible national of a Visa Waiver Program country.
You are currently not in possession of a visitor's visa.
Your travel is for 90 days or less.
You plan to travel to the United States for business or pleasure. |

Yeah this is exactly how most Koreans do it, and I can tell you for a fact it works. Make sure the visa is appropriate for your travel plans though (B1B2 for short term business travel). Some people think you can just hop over on an old student visa since it is technically still valid, but it doesn't work that way. But yeah, just bring both passports, the customs people don't care if the visa is in an old passport as long as you have a new, valid passport as well. |

I worked for many years in the visa/passport courier industry in the US and I can say with absolute certainty that this is not a problem. Simply staple or attach (rubber bands are great) the old passport with the valid visa to the new passport, go to the airport and get on a plane. It's that easy!
The only countries on Earth that I know allow you to travel with a current visa in an expired passport are the US, Brazil and India. |

We're just visiting the US for 3 days so her visa should be appropriate. Thanks for the information. @Vox, thanks as well. |
