After over a year on these forums it as become clear that many (probably the vocal minority) have some serious problems with the "average" English teacher in Korea. From their descriptions I was expecting all English teachers I met to be immature alcoholics with no sense of personal responsibility. Since I came here I have also learned that all G.I.'s like to start fights, all older Koreans are rude and racist, and all Korean girls are crazy.

Turns out, the English teachers here have been some of the more interesting people I have met. They are well educated (compared to the general population). They don't cause a lot of problems. The only criticism I have is that a few can be lazy at work or embarrassingly loud when drunk.

I really don't think NETs deserve a lot of the criticisms they get on this forum. Yes, many of them like to drink heavily on the weekend, but so do Koreans. As long as it doesn't affect their work and they don't embarrass themselves too much, why shouldn't they? Yea, they have short hours. Yea, they don't have education degrees. That's not their fault.

As a final point, read #1 in this article:

Explains so much that I read here.

Never got that impression. every time someone on here tries to generalise about anything half a dozen posters will come on saying the opposite is true. Just like me now I suppose

Or we choose to drink a lot during the week, which plenty of Koreans do as well. Plenty of us still do our jobs well.

I actually do liek that final point of the article.

However, while I agree with much of what he says and do realize that people are very difficult to categorize, I still like to try! I love psychology and sociology and will always question human behavior while also trying to make as many correlations and theories as I deem qualified because it is enjoyable for me.
