Hey guys,
I'm already in Korea working under and E-2 for a school.
But I would like another position after my contract ends in July.
If I can't get a better job I will stay with my current employer but I would really like to live in another area in South Korea. Mainyl because the possibility is there.
What should I do?
Should I use a recruiter? All of the information out there is for people who are abroad looking to get in. |

If you don't have the connections or personal network (friends and acquaintances) to find a better job then use recruiters.
BE FUSSY about what you are willing to accept.
You are like GOLD to a recruiter (in Korea, on an E2, able to transfer without difficulty (end of contract) and able to interview at a new school).

Since you are in Korea, you can visit the schools. I used recruiters and I am doing the same here in China. Sometimes, you will get lucky, other times you will need to visit several schools. I am on my 6th school this afternoon. Don't give up. We have time and visa on our side. |

thx, its good to know what my worth is to a recruiter.
there used to be a thread here listing all the recruiters that garnered positive reviews...
But it might not be relevant any more.
if anyone has any suggestions i would be super grateful. |

Every recruiter is a potential introduction to a job.
You are here so you can check it out BEFORE you are committed by the visa and airticket so the reputation of the recruiter is irrelevant - they are just an introduction to a potential job.
Use ALL of them and pick your best options to go and interview.

Yeah, just got through a job hunt myself. The trick is to be anal about the contracts and walk away the second you see any warning signs. Remember that it's a teacher's market and they need you a lot more than you need them.
I did several interviews and spoke to more than a dozen recruiters before I chose my school. Recruiters like to piss on you and tell you it's raining so don't be afraid to tell them where to go. |

Yeah, I think the biggest contention will be the location...
I'll still be looking at job boards for any juicy posts.
How long did it take you to figure out which school to settle with by the way? |

It only took me a bit more than a week but I was literally taking calls from recruiters all hours of the day and pouring over contracts in my inbox. I've also been here long enough to know what a bad contract looks like.
There were a couple of contracts that had loopholes just large enough to create an invisible morning kindergarten that they probably wouldn't tell me about until after I signed on with them. Those went straight to the recycle bin.
If you're as strict as I was... two weeks tops. You could even do it in less if something really good came along. |

LOL!
I'll probably post up my top contracts here on Dave's when all is said and done then. |
