I'm going to move to Incheon at the end of August to look for an ESL teaching job. I'm looking for any specifice advice such as the state of the job market, job hunting tips once I get there... any advice you think would help, I'd really appreciate. Thank-you.
Here's some more details. My father lives in Incheon, so I can stay there. I'll probably have better luck in Seoul, so is there public transportaion to Seoul from Incheon (railway?).
Also, I'm Korean male (adopted to US when I was 8, don't speak Korean). Anything related to that would help. I have no teaching experience. I'm 33 with a BA in Accounting and lots of accounting/business/computer experience.
From what I've read, my chances of finding decent-good job through internet job sites is slim. Is that a correct assumption?
I'm moving to Korea so I can spend time with my Korean father and family. I visited them for the first time in April and it felt really good.
So any advice, anything that would help, especially something I haven't thought of, I'd really appreciate. Thanks again. |

Good for you.
Inchon seems to have lots of schools. Plenty of jobs here. I know of one Korean American here working at a school, so it shouldn't be a big deal for you either. Just take your resume to the schools here, introduce yourself, and let it al happen from there. If your staying with your family, it will be a definite plus for the school. Should get a position after a few weeks
Good luck

| Lived in Inchon...nothing much to do there. Went to Seoul on the weekends. Wouldn't recommend the place. |

Nothing wrong with Inchon.
Used to hate the place, but these days it seems alot better. Depends on where you live in Inchon too, I guess. Still, having lived in several different cities and towns here in Korea, I've only lived in one city better than here (for me, anyways). Lots of stuff with foreigners goes on in bars on the weekends here, and Seoul isn't that far away either. It's comfortable, except for the remarkable number of drunk older Korean men on the subway who like to bother me!! And who says that Koreans don't like foreigners?!
OP, just come here to Korea. Your family will make sure you don't starve while you are looking for a job, and work will show up sooner or later (i'm betting on sooner though). Not everyone's experience in Korea is good(or bad), but finding out about your past overides other considerations. Good luck!! |
