Got a job offer for an area of Seoul. It is the Jungo-gu neighborhood. Closest metro stops are Dongmyo and changshin. Line number 6. Does anyone know about this neighborhood? I figure it is pretty close to Itaewon to get dinner but far enough away from Itaewon. Thanks. Chris. |

Yep, I live closeby.
Honest answer.... Dongmyo is very busy 24 hours a day. Many cars at a major intersection, and lots of people. Some creepy ajoshis, which my wife hates. Somewhat annoying subway station layout. Area is an unattractive mix between dumpy and modern. Outback steakhouse, Vips, and some coffee shops are there. Not a pretty area. Daiso is there, so you can get cheap stuff for your apartment. People sell used crap on the streets on weekends at an outdoor market South and East across the street. Looks like they dug it out of the garbage.
Changsin is not pretty, and at the base of a mountain full of old villas mixed with new apartments. Both are very close to Dongdaemun, and Itaewon is 15 mins away by subway. Find out if your housing is a crappy old villa or tiny newer oficetel. Likely the former.
Good news about it is it's close to good areas. |

While Dongmyo doesn't have anything special, it's in the city center. You are one stop from Dongdaemun (tons of shopping and restaurants), 2 stations from Hyehwa (entertainment and university district), not far too from Korea University (some decent vibes on the bar street), and since you are on Jongno Street, you can hop on a bus and hit Jonggak and Gwanghwamun easily. |

I live a couple of stops up, near Bomun stn. Like others have said, it's less than picturesque but the location's good for north of the river stuff (itaewon, jongno, dongdaemun, etc.). |
