I've seen references to the CBC only being valid for 6 months from the date when it was issued. Is this a hardline rule? I finally received my CBC from the FBI after two months (and the date on it is frustratingly about one month ago). Now I see people talking about the current delays for an apostille being as long as 3 months. It seems like the standard advice has always been to take your time and not rush to accept the first job you're offered. But now I'm getting worried that I won't even have that small luxury, since there will apparently be such a small window in which I'm able to find a job once my documents are in hand.

Is there any chance at all of getting a visa once your CBC crosses that 6-month point?

Unfortunately, the 6 month rule is steadfast.

It sucks, but that's the way it is Sad

Good Luck!

NO.

but the good news is that the processing time AFTER you have your documents in hand is FAST (12-21 days after you sign the contract) and there is no shortage of jobs (here or China).

Cast a wide net and you will be IN Asia and working within 40 days of having all your documents ready.

Nor for Thailand either with Vietnam requiring only an FBI CBC a channeler can expedite. I'm seriously considering a different (adventurous) route this Fall instead of couchsurfing until 2012 with this looooooooong FBI CBC process and then waiting to find a job, process the visa, and possibly wait longer for the actual start date. If you are itching to do something shortly, a long wait is too onerous.
