I'm planning a weekend in Seoul. I was wondering where are some good places in Hongdae to go to? I would prefer a place with little to no cover charge. As well, where are places nearby to stay? Thanks

S Club isn't bad if you like hip hop and is free for foreigners.

Ting Tings isn't a bad place to start the night (3,000 won cocktail happy hour until midnight on Saturdays, no cover).

Oi is really cool and doesn't have a cover, but is also quite expensive. It's still worth going to for a drink or two though.

Any of the Ho bars (up to 10 now?) have pretty cheap cocktails (3,000-5,000) and are a good place to start. Also bar zen is pretty similar and always has a crowd. As far as dancing and getting wasted face.. you can't go wrong with Papa Gorillas.. cheap booze, stripper poles, no military allowed. It's in the alley next to the prince george kareoke bar.

That place is dirty, dirty, dirty. The gym teacher at my school is the dude with the whistle, so I get treated well, but I still can't stand to go there unless I'm already totally krunked.

Depends on what you're looking for. Since you mentioned covers, it sounds like you want to go clubbing. The best clubs (cocoon, m2, nb2) all have 15k+ covers. IMO, its worth it for the experience if you've never been.

Vent is a great music bar w/ good priced drinks. Motto is another nice music bar, a little more expensive, but in a better location. G8 is great for hookah. Papa gorilla is good for dancing and cheap drinks, but its not very classy. My favorite bar is 501 darts bar around cocoon; really chill place to drink, even if you dont like darts/pool/foosball.

just pay the cover... in my experience the clubs that don't charge foreigners usually suck. nb2, cocoon, m2 are all pretty good. the real clubs are in the gangnam area, but those will set you back around 30K on a Saturday. I've also heard good things about Mansion in hdae but that's around 30K afaik.

I thought Ting Tings was pretty good, there's usually a crowd on weekends, you can request the music, and they have stupid cheap drinks.

Really? nb1 and especially nb2 are some of the worst clubs I've ever been to. They let as many people in as possible, it is impossible to dance because the mass blob of people.

OP, don't go to these places.

Nb1 was packed but the music was great..Nb2 was good. but my favorite is Cocoon..been there are couple o ftimes now and its awesome music with space to dance and doesnt get hot like nb1 or Nb2. Cocoon has air jets blowing as you come in so you just stand under them if you dance too hard.

Cocoon is good, no issues there, but that is why they have a long line to get in usually.

Edit: not sure what happened there

Ting Ting's used to be my favorite place in Hongdae, but they got rid of the pool table, the drinks are no longer stupidly cheap, and it's now a live music venue which is so loud that you can't have a conversation.
