I am out in the sun a lot so I don't mind paying more for a good quality brand.
Do you know of any?

Thanks

i was wondering this same thing after being outside a long time over the weekend. my friend swears up and down that Clarins UV Plus Day Screen High Protection is like the best thing ever. It's a mineral based physical sunscreen, not chemical based like most sunscreens (I didn't know the diff between physical and chemical until i googled it).

I just started using it today and wasn't out in the sun more than 45 minutes, so that's probably not long enough to say if it worked or not. if you get this brand, make sure you moisturize first.

astaxanthin has a reputation for being an internal sunscreen.

One place you can get it is iHerb.com and, if it's your first order with them, you can get a $5 discount on your order by using this discount code: COC920

External sunscreens block your body's ability to produce Vitamin D3, a vital nutrient. And you probably have an insufficient amount of D3 in your blood already since most people do.

For the highest protection against both UVA and UVB, try Bioderma SPF 50+ spray sunscreen. Off Leguidesante.com it's reasonably priced for the quantity (400 mL), though the shipping is really high and it's not economical unless you buy in bulk. It has the best protection against UVA because it uses tinosorb M, a chemical which blocks low-frequency UVA better than any other chemical. By the way, the SPF label on sunscreens only describes UVB protection, not UVA. UVA doesn't burn but it does contribute towards skin aging and melanoma.

If you're outside sweating a lot, the Bioderma stuff may not be the most water-resistant, though. Not sure. If you want to try a few things, check the Internet for products with tinosorb M. Those are serious sunscreens. The second best chemical for those tough-to-block UVA rays is Mexoryl XL, used in La Roche Posay sunscreens and others.

No American sunscreen will contain those chemicals because the FDA hasn't approved them yet, even though they've been approved for years in Europe.

If you're using sunscreen, be sure you're getting enough vitamin D3 in your diet. Lack of vitamin D3 can substantially raise your cancer risk.

The Neutrogena sunscreen works pretty well...it's got helioplex in it.

For some reason, no other sunscreen seems to work for me.

Here's a healthy, non-toxic sunscreen.

http://www.iherb.com/Desert-Essence-Organics-Daily-Sun-Protection-Age-Reversal-Mineral-Sunscreen-SPF-30-3-fl-oz-88-7-ml/10439?at=0

It costs $5.25 plus shipping, but you can get a $5 discount if this is your 1st order with iHerb.com and you use the discount code: COC920. Then it will cost you 25 cents plus shipping.

More info on sunscreens:
"Researchers at the Environmental Working Group, a Washington-based nonprofit, released their annual report claiming nearly half of the 500 most popular sunscreen products may actually increase the speed at which malignant cells develop and spread skin cancer because they contain vitamin A and its derivatives, retinol and retinyl palmitate."
