Ha... I started a thread on a similar topic 1 month ago. It took 24 hours to turn into a flame war and was deleted. I wonder how long this one will last.
The Korea apologists will be here any second...
Thanks for the article! |

Someone call my name?
But apparently we were a step slower than it took for someone to take a swipe at this place and to throw down the gauntlet.....Et tu Brute? |

Ghostwriting has been a major aspect of pop music for decades. It's a big aspect of rap culture as well. |

Korea is by no means alone. Few pop artists anywhere have any song writing talent.
Haha, I remember a year ago I went down the Busan to meet a Korean family for whom I did some tutoring in Canada. We went out for dinner and they invited some friends. There was this one 15 year old boy there and he asked me if I liked Girls Generation. I made a huge mistake... and I said... nope I don't really like their music.
The kid almost busted a nut. In fact, he might have actually busted one and the grimace on his face was just his way of dealing with the pain. He shouted at me, "WHY?" Haha, I'll never forget that. My friend (girl I tutored in Canada) was embarrassed. Later she told me that she thought he was crazy.
Never tell a 15 year old Korean boy that his idol is not your idol too... |

It's more likely Lady Gaga did what she already admitted to doing: lifting from Madonna. Did SNSD make a similar admission?
*edit*: Oops, she was asked if she copied Madonna's 'Express Yourself' and denied it. My bad. Still, you've got your source wrong.

Where did you get the idea that Gaga admitted to anything? Are you making stuff up?
Here's what she had to say about the matter:
"No. Listen to me. Why the [expletive]...? I'm a songwriter. I've written loads of music. Why would I try to put out a song and think I'm getting one over on everybody? That's retarded."
"What a completely ridiculous thing to even question me about. I will look you in your eyes and tell you that I am not dumb enough or moronic enough to think that you are dumb enough or moronic enough not to see that I would have stolen a melody. If you put the songs next to each other, side by side, the only similarities are the chord progression. It's the same one that's been in disco music for the last 50 years. Just because I'm the first [expletive] artist in 25 years to think of putting it on Top 40 radio, it doesn't mean I'm a plagiarist, it means that I'm [expletive] smart."
"Nobody in this room at any point looked around and said, 'Oh my God, it's 'Express Yourself.' Not once. Listen. I swear to you. ... It's so funny to hear you say, 'It must have been a homage,' I'm like, NO. When I homage, I [expletive] homage with a big sign saying I've done it. Why would I not do that now?" |

I wonder where they got "if you wanna pretty, every wanna pretty" from. Hmmmmmmm
Also wondering how this works, since those British and Scandinavian song writers don't write it in Korean. Someone just translates the lyrics, or are they more along the lines of production and making the melody? |

Where do K-Pop songs originate from?
Answer: Not Korea.
The crowd is not shocked.

Real talk, broken English aside, that's a great song and a mega-boner inducing video. |

interesting to read the Guardian getting in the act of slamming KPOP considering the Korea Times was trumpeting up the potential of Europe as a big place for KPOP to breakthrough recently. Some of the subsidiaries over in the States have been bleeding money and they are looking for new markets now. I guess Europe is also a no go. |

They originate from a time long ago when Duran Duran, The Thompson Twins and Cyndi Lauper ruled the airwaves. Koreans are just a little behind the times. Like 27+ years late. |
