I heard a rumor that public schools will do away with desk warming next year and allow us to have grown up vacations. Anyone else hear any news on this front?

Yes, it's called budget cutbacks, and 60% of all teachers will be on permanent vacation.

Ive heard that it will be at the school's discretion.

I wouldnt be surprised though if they started going the route that Japan does and stop paying us when there's no school.

I thought it'd be fun to come back to EPIK and Korea. The EPIK program is getting worse all the time, and so are the kids. Last week, my car was vandalized. The plastic around the window that keeps rain out was broken and I found a bunch of trash in my car. I had the windows open about 6 inches because of the sun.

My school did nothing, of course. It's only been 2 months, and I'm already looking forward to getting the hell out of here. Now I remember why I left to begin with!

I have to laugh when I think that in a few years, these little spoiled, self absorbed little bastards will be joining the Army and defending this country. Judging from what I see, SK should start learning Chinese now!

6 inches? You were asking for trouble.

And I would never work at public schools in Korea. I still don't know why some people think it's worth it.

Leaving any crack of a window open is inviting trouble. It's like leaving a few pennies on the passenger seat in my hometown. Some cheap punk is going to break the window just for a few cents.

Public schools are great, also don't own a car. Have a bicycle, the worst I've experienced is some girl leaving candy and a letter on it.

I live out in the boonies. One school is 3-4 miles away. The other is about 15 miles or so each way. There is no bus that goes directly to the one 15 miles away. It would take 1 1/2 hours to get there if I didn't have a car!

The windows were cracked, and it was parked next to the building. I went to the bank and came back with about an hour or so left of the day. Didn't think the little bastards would do something like that. Like I said, 2 months into this year and I'm already looking forward to the end of the year. I doubt I'll stay or come back to Korea again.

I was talking to a friend who teaches in the boonies in EPIK, too. Seems that Chungcheonnam-do Province is withholding travel money for those who completed the 2010 contract ending in FEB 2011. They have to wait until AUG 2011 to get the W2 million they were supposed to get. This is in line with all the other talk about budget cuts.

In any event, this is my only year in EPIK in Korea!
