I have been looking into doing a motorcycle trip down to Busan and getting a ferry to Japan and driving around for a few days. I am looking for any kind of information from anyone that has done this before. I'm finding it hard to get solid information on the internet so I was hoping that someone could help me. I have found some information on blogs but I can't find anything solid.
My Case:
I have my regular Korean driving license which is good for a 125CC bike but I am in the process of applying for my full motorcycle license.
I am currently not registered or insured but I am planning on doing it on my next pay day. my proposed trip would be around the start of August for about 10 days. i am thinking about going to Osaka or Fukuoka
What I have read but would like to have confirmed:
I must have a full motorcycle licence. The License I have now does not qualify me to drive a 125cc bike or lower in Japan.
I must have a Korean international driving license accompanying my full Korean driving license.
I have to buy compulsory 3rd person insurance once I arrive in Japan.
The police there are very strict when it comes to licences.
What I would like to know:
Is it possible to get an international driving license for my Korean drivers license if I have only just gotten it recently?
Does it cost more to bring a bike on the ferry.
Roughly how much does the insurance in Japan cost?
Is there any other paper work that needs to be done on arrival in Japan?
Is it worth all the hassle?
Thanks! |

Yes.
I can't answer the rest of your questions but you can definitely get the international drivers permit as soon as you are fully licenced.
Keep in mind that the motorcycle test is hard to pass if you haven't practiced on the test course. You should probably go to a moto hagwon because the course is all slow speed driving. |

you mean more than it costs for just your corpse, right? if so... yes; and not just a little more. |

Just a thought - if you have your license from your home country with a motorcycle endorsement, get the International permit on your home license. A LOT less of a hassle than getting the Korean endorsement. Of course, it only works if you have the endorsement at home... |
