It's one of those phone SIM's that you can set up to use on the bus or subway etc.
Does anyone know how to get these things activated?
I have checked on Naver but didn't find anything useful.

First make sure you have a T-money sim card. It will have a T-money logo on it somewhere along with a 16-digit T-money card number on the back.

Next you'll have to make sure your phone is compatible. Most recent Korean phones (Samsung, LG, etc) are compatible. Many foreign phones (in particular the iPhone) are not compatible. You can find a list at your carrier's website.

Next you'll have to install an application on your phone in order to use it. SK's version is called "T-Cash" (티캐쉬) while KT and LG are both called "Mobile T-Money" (모바일티머니). With the application you can check your balance, reload (charging to a credit card or your phone bill), check usage history, etc.

If you're an SK user visit this site...

http://tcash.tworld.co.kr/tworld/join/index.bns?ch=13

Enter your phone number in the orange box at the bottom and it will send you a link to install the app if your phone is compatible.

Here's a guide for KT, not as simple as entering your phone number in a box unfortunately...

http://www.t-money.co.kr/jsp/tpub/tmobile/kt_use_guide.jsp#

And here's LG...

Wow... you're amazing.
Thank you!

I am running a Blackberry 9700 on SK. BUT the site gives me a pop-up after I have entered my number. Any clues?

It says: 접근이 허용되지 않았습니다

Access is not permitted...

Tried this with my Galaxy S, and though the process seemed to go painlessly, it didn't actually work on either the bus or the subway.

I downloaded the app, put 10,000 won in my account (which shows up in the t-cash app), but it wouldn't work at all. I tried removing the case, but still no luck.

We popped into an SK shop and asked about it. The woman there told my wife and I that I need to order a special t-money case for the Galaxy S. Confused Can't say that makes much sense, as the SIM card has the T-Money logo (and several others) on it. Not to mention, I was able activate the SIM card with the T-cash app and put 10,000 won in my account. Kind of confused.

Any thoughts?

Yes, you need to get the special cover. It's not a case exactly, it's a replacement for the back battery cover (doesn't make the phone any bigger or anything like that). This was a pretty dumb move on Samsung's part. I guess the necessary parts weren't ready when the phone was first released. They started shipping these back covers out a month or two later. It's free and you can order it from http://kr.samsungmobile.com It will work fine after that.

Cheers...will try giving them a call tomorrow. And you're right...it was a bonehead move. Just bought my phone a month ago. The Galaxy S has been on the market for ages...more than enough time to have sorted this 'oversight' out.

Thx again!

Wow, talk about good ideas ruined by bad planning.

This is potentially one of the best ideas T-money have come up with, only to have it ruined like this.

JEE-ZUS!!!

**RANT**

I've just about had it. Wife called the number on the mobile website. Was informed someone would call us back within the hour. An hour and a half later, we call again, same answer. Finally, phone rings...for about 3 seconds and then cuts off. We call again. We'll be added to the call back list again. Finally, about 2 1/2 hours after the original call, the phone rings again, and my wife pounces on it, only to be informed that we have to register for the site and order the cover from there.

Fine.

Go to the site and try to register. Fill in the form, only to get some message saying we have to register for some other site first, but then it bumps us back to the original sign up page. There is no link on the pop-up, and there's a stupid smiley face emoticon to boot! Grrrrrrr!!!!!

I've filled out the damn online forms 3 times now, but with the same result. Unfortunately it's now after office hours and of course, tomorrow is a holiday.

What a pain in the neck (and you all know I'm thinking of a different part of the anatomy here) to get an 'accessory' that should've shipped with the phone in the first place!

**RANT OVER**

So, after a couple more phone calls, it turns out that I must've registered for some other Samsung site in the past, as my alien reg. number was already in use. The person my wife spoke to was able to tell us the username I'd used, and I was able to deduce the password (as I have no recollection of signing up for any Samsung site in the past).

Anyways, once that was done and I'd added the Samsung Mobile site to that login ID, it was pretty straight forward. Had to turn the phone off and remove the battery to get a couple of numbers for registration purposes. Once the phone was 'registered' I just had to re-enter my address and officially order the cover.

FYI, for anyone thinking about doing this, YOU NEED TO DO IT BEFORE JUNE 30, 2011!!! Not sure if phones sold after that will have the new covers, but no idea what your options will be if you try to order one of these covers after June 30th.

Will post again once I've received the cover and tested to see if it works.

Thanks to nick for the help and suggestions. Would never have known about this without your info!

Well, it's been a week with no sign of the new cover.

I had my wife call to check it out (there was a phone number to call for inquiries when I ordered it on line).

Turns out, they're "out of stock" at the moment. They're 'expecting' another shipment this week, and IF they get it, I'll get my cover next week. IF...

Can't say I'm terribly impressed...

I got the program downloaded and figured out how to get an account. Problem now is how to pay. Apparently I can't use my hana bank BC card, and if I add the charge to my phone bill its 1,000 a month (no thanks). Does anyone have a way to pay for this that isn't stupid?

You can use cash to reload it at one of the machines in a subway station or convenience store just like you would with a normal t-money card. I don't know why they only accept such a limited number of credit cards.
