|
|
So, I was in a hurry and somehow pressed check instead of cash at the ATM. I use KEB and went to a KEB ATM, so I got this little check for 100k won. I have no idea what to do with this check. Can I just go to the bank and cash it, go to a store and use it and get change back? Do I need to sign it? I have no idea, I never used a check here, and I just want my cash.
So, can I just turn it in to the bank? |

I know you can just go to the bank and cash it. I'm not sure about using it in a store, but I'm pretty sure it's pretty much the same thing as cash (possibly the reason that Korea still lacks a 100,000 won bill). |

Put it back into the ATM as a deposit to your account. |

I did the same thing when I was first here and running late for a meal with friends.
The restaurant I went to took the check, my friends paid their share of the meal and I got cashed up. No problems at all. |

Yeah, put it back in the ATM or keep trying to use it at businesses. If you're buying something relatively large they will probably take it depending on the size of the cheque. |

Most places, even small businesses would accept it. If you go to a bigger supermarket, they will surely take it. Lotte Mart or Emart, department store and such... no question.
Make sure you write your name and phone number on the back. Cashiers will ask you to do so. |

If I put it in back in the ATM, do I need to sign it? Or just leave it the way I got it? |

It's supposed to be accepted the same as cash. |

You've obviously never tried cashing it at a typical Korean restaurant. If the cheque is for more than 20k, they won't even look at it. |

They are supposed to treat it like cash. Like everything else in Korea, your experiences may vary. |

You've obviously only been to crappy restaurants. I've never even seen a "check" for anything other than 100k, but they could exist. Every place, except for tiny little mom&pops where I've taken then have had no problems.
OP, use your head and think...would you use a $100 or 50quid bill to pay for a pack of gum? If no, don't try it here. If yes, do what you do. Anything you try to buy larger than that should be fine. |

Don't sign it, just deposit it. |
