Apparently, most of Asia is finally getting its PSN services turned on. However, according to a little note from the Playstation-Asia-Hong Kong site,
"Service restoration of PlayStationNetwork has not been launched in Korea and Hong Kong, yet. The schedule for it will be announced as soon as ready."

Does anyone know why the continued delay for Korea? I just upgraded my PS3 hard drive and apparently, my DLC wants me to authorize it for what it thinks is a "new system". |

Sony to Restore PlayStation Network in Asia, Finally
PC Magazine
More than a month after Sony's massive data breach and suspension of the PlayStation Network, Sony is set to start restoring PSN services in Asia tomorrow.
Bloomberg is reporting that tomorrow services will begin coming back in Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand, but services in South Korea and Hong Kong will remain suspended until further notice.
The Tokyo-based company began resuming its PSN services in Europe and North America on May 15. Services in Asia were delayed, however, as Sony purportedly needed to prove to the authorities that it had taken the appropriate steps to protect users' data.
While online gaming and chat services are being restored, Sony said the PlayStation online store would remain down until the end of the month.
To resume PSN services, users are required install a firmware update on PS3 consoles and reset their passwords. Sony provides detailed instructions to help customers get their consoles back online. Sony is also providing free identity theft protection for those affected in the hack.
Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kazuo Hirai issued a video statement last week announcing the restoration of PSN services and apologizing to users for the outage. He promised customers a "welcome back package," which would be detailed in "the coming days."
The company said it expects the costs from the PlayStation Network hack, which began on April 21, to total $171 million .
Despite the company's efforts to regroup after the inital hack that took down the PlayStation Network and Sony Online Entertainment, divisions of Sony continue to be attacked. A Sony site in Greece was reportedly hacked in early May, a Japanese Sony music site was targeted last week, Sony's subsidiary ISP was infiltrated and around $1,225 in redeemable gift points were taken, and Sony Ericsson Canada's eShop, an online store for mobile phones and accessories, was breached on May 24. |

Given that I'm a customer in South Korea who uses the US Store, if it is down long enough for me to miss out on the Welcome Back offer in the US Store, I will be a very unhappy camper.
Especially since it isn't like I'm freaking allowed to use the Korean store. I have a ton of DLC codes just sitting there. |

Dear Korean Jesus,
Please ask Mr. Miyagi to kindly throw the switch and return PSN capabilities to your countrymen.
Kindest Regards,
Goochmon. |

there is no new news. IGN is reporting that full PSN functionality will be up on Fri, save for Japan, Korea And Hong Kong.
My wife looked for some info on the Korean net, but couldn't find anything new. Just netizens asking "WHEN" and Sony not responding.
I know why Japan is still blocked. But if the rest of Asia is going up, why Hong Kong and Korea still blocked? Is it possible that we are host to some of the hackers? |

Could be that the Japan services have servers in Hong Kong and Korea, since they're all part of the same backbone if Japan isn't up those aren't either. Sux because most of the games i've bought from Play Asia are the English HK version... |

That was my theory as well, except that the Japanese servers ARE coming up.
So far, it looks like the world's lone holdouts are Korea and Hong Kong. |

Apparently, there is some relation, even though the Japanese already have access to the network itself back, from a press release:
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/05/30/full-psn-services-including-playstation-store-return-this-week/
SONY AND SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCE FULL RESTORATION OF PLAYSTATIONNETWORK SERVICES
Tokyo, May 31, 2011 Sony Corporation and Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) announced today that Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI, the company) will fully restore all PlayStationNetwork services in the Americas, Europe/PAL territories and Asia, excluding Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea by the end of this week. The company will also resume Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PlayStation3 (PS3), PSP (PlayStationPortable), VAIO and other PCs. Details for Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea as well as the remaining services on Qriocity will be announced as they become available.
According to one site I saw, South Korea is also insisting on very complete credit card protection plans before allowing the network back up. |

There may be issues for those of us using Korean IPs but american/european PSN accounts:
Your concerns have been heard in regards to the PlayStationNetwork Customer Appreciation Program. I understand that at the present time you're in South Korea and are worried you won't be eligible for this. I realize the outage was frustrating and apologize for the delayed response.
**This promotion won't start until the PSN has total functionality. This maintenance is supposed to be finished by the end of May, 2011.**
If you're on a military base, you should have no problem with accessing this content. However, If this is not the case, your IP address may cause a problem with obtaining the promotional content. |

Ugh, meaning that we may be limited to the Korean Welcome Back content, whatever that is.
It does make sense. Otherwise, the smart thing would be just to make a code in each region and grab a couple games from each. |

Something one of you could maybe answer for me.
I have a VPN set up so I can watch TV from the UK on my PS3. Works a treat. The PSN is back up in the UK. However, even though I am connecting the PS3 via the VPN I still get the message that it is undergoing maintenance.
How does that work? Surely if I am passing my connection to the UK and then connecting via there it should go to the UK network.
Clearly it isn't. Obviously connecting via the Japanese network. But why? |

How did you set up a VPN on your PS3? Did you set up a bridge? I have a VPN on my computer for the wife to watch Netflix. I didn't even think about setting it up on the PS3.
Sorry to hijack by the way. |

I set my PC as a proxy server, connect the PS3 to the computer and then connect the computer to the VPN. Works a treat for BBC iplayer, ITV and channel 4. Would presumably work the same with Hulu and the likes.
Use http://www.youngzsoft.net/ccproxy/to turn your PC into a proxy. Connect to the VPN and then go into PS3 network settings and put in your PC IP and use it as the PS3 proxy.
Sorted. |
