My school has just been bought out by another company. Not much has changed except for our head Korean teacher leaving (can't wait to see what made her quit. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best, right?)
So, it is Christian company that bought our school. I honestly have no problem with the company, but I usually don't trust people's intentions when they mix religion with business. At our company meeting they told us they want to make changes for the better to our school. I've noticed that when someone says they are going to make changes for the better, that usually means more work for the underlings. Also, I have been here for 3 months now and I have not seen any paper work resembling health insurance. I want to say it is because of the transition, but they are being johnny on the spot with taking the money out of my paycheck.
Anyway, all the foreign teachers have to sign new contracts. If these contracts are different, can that be grounds to ask for a LOR? Should I be worried now that I might be getting screwed out of health insurance? What are my options? |

I will talk with you about it tonight over some mexican lol
anyway, for others in the same situation, the first thing that you need to do if call the pension office to see if they have actually registered you since you said they are taking money out every month for it.
02)2211-2881 is the number for Nowon-gu.
Head office is 02) 2240-1114
They will be able to tell you if you are registered. If you are, then all it will take is a call to NHIC to get another heath care book mailed to you. They dont really mean anything though, as you can take your alien card to the doctor with you and they know if you are registered or not.
If you are not registered, I would ask the new management straight up if they are going to register you for pension. If not, tell them that you will be seeking release from the job. See where that goes.
If the new ownership comes in and they try and change things, like putting you under contract as a private contractor or changing working hours/pay/benefits DO NOT SIGN IT. If you are looking for a LOR you will need to get that from your previous boss/owner since they are the ones who own your Visa.
The one thing that I am not sure of, and someone here may be able to answer it, is: I know that you school is changing names under the new ownership. Does that mean that you will need to transfer your Visa since it will be a new school that you are working at?
I am under the impression that, if this is the case, you would be free to find a new job if the conditions of the contract are not in your favor AND the old management will help you a little bit. |

Yes, that's exactly what it means.
This happened to me last year, and I was told by Gwangju immi that I had 30 days from the date the school was sold to transfer my visa to ANY school - no LOR necessary. Definitely check with your local immigration office, but I see no reason why your case should be any different. |
