C'mon. Really? These government officials should be ashamed of themselves.

This seems excessive. In fact, any punishment beyond, perhaps, a fine directly proportional to the additional costs incurred by the school due to the presence of the child (if any) seems excessive.

So sad. Sad It bothers me that there is such a thing as low-income and high-income public schools. Sad

Hopefully, this case will get enough exposure that the authorities will be shamed into dropping the case. A facebook group in support might not be a bad idea. It would at least raise awareness.

She may have broken the law, but what the hell is wrong with this country? The country has generally been based on individual pursuit of happiness, in this case a better future for her child. Did she victimize anybody while she was lying? No, trying to send her child to a better school. There is something she could do though. She could flee the USA with her child, to say Britian or some other country and ask for asylum. I guarantee you the British would not deport or extradite her under the present conditions she faces. Not with the injustice that surrounds this particular case. If I was in her predicament and not in jail and had the money I would flee this insanity.

Wow... that really sucks.

Especially considering when this problem has been going on for eons anyway but under a somewhat different guise. In that parents will get a short tem rental house in a good district so that they can enrol their kids in a better school.

Just what the school district wanted to achieve by this is strange, unless they were wanting to scare of the parents who just get short tem rentals in the school district.

But picking on a homeless mother who was just trying to help her child is not the way to go about this problem at all. Hopefully the people concerned will be named and shamed and some form of sanity prevails.

Don't forget that her friend in subsidized housing is now homeless for letting them use her address.

Hopefully the grand jury will be of the quality to just refuse to indict her or the jury will acquit. Given the willingness of the population in the US to just go along with absolute injustices, I don't know. But then again the judge in the case could just declare her not guilty, of course at some risk to himself. This is a clear case where there needs to be some shaming if the people involved don't do the right thing.
