Does anyone know of any matches going on to see? My friends and I really want to go see one and we know that they happen. I've been searching and I haven't found any type of league or schedule anywhere. |

The parent company of K-1, FEG, is experiencing some financial problems these days so they are being slow in terms of publishing details of any upcoming events. Usually there's a couple of these a year in Korea but so far I've yet to hear anything. FEG seem to be focusing on making an mma event (DREAM 17 - Fight for Japan)
As for MMA, the UFC are talking about coming over perhaps late this year or next year for a show as they're keen to re-establish themselves in Asia and, at this point, Korea makes more sense than many places. Japan was top of the list until the Earthquake/Tsunami situation.
For the smaller orgs/shows I'm not plugged in here yet. Sorry, all I gave you was lots of waffle and no pay-off. |

The MMA/K-1 scene is not as big here as it used to be.
A few years ago, K-1 would have 2-3 events here per year (World GP final 16, I think ditto for MAX, and sometimes another MAX event). Last year they still had both World GP final 16s here, but on back to back days. If you've ever been to a show, you know going two days in a row is a lot to ask. They obviously did it to cut costs though. Wouldn't be surprised if they do the same thing this year...if K-1 is even still around by September.
As for MMA, with no major organizations trying to come here (Dream announced a show and then cancelled about a year ago), and a lack of domestic promotions, the pickings have been slim. There's a promotion called Road FC that had an event a few weeks ago. Had Denis Kang on the card, was at the Hilton Convention Hall, and the tickets were somewhat expensive. I didn't bother going; nobody I knew was interested (somewhat due to the price), and I usually don't like events held in convention halls anyway. Again, the scene is a far cry from a few years back when Spirit MC was cranking out events every month or two in Jangchung Gymnasium.
The best way to find out about upcoming fights would be on these websites:
www.mfight.co.kr (though you better brush up on your Korean first)
www.sherdog.com (go to fights and search for "korea"...or find the Korean MMA Discussion thread on the forum)
www.nightmareofbattle.com (all the news in Japanese and Korean MMA)
In checking out those links, I just found out that there is a fight event in Seoul today! I'll post again when I find the info. |

There are actually 2 events at the same place today.
M-1 Selection Asia at 1 pm and KF-1 HW Tournament at 6 pm.
They are at the KBS 88 체육관 (Gymnasium) in Gangseo-gu...somewhat close to Gayang Stn on line 9.
Can't find any ticket info other than something that said a 20,000 ticket will let you see all of the fights (may or may not mean both events). |
