I don't answer phone calls from unknown numbers unless I expect a package from the delivery man. I wonder though if there is there any truth to rumors about phone scams where your account will get billed simply by answering a call. Any ideas? |

I was just wondering the same thing. I have been getting calls from an unknown international number. I answered it one morning this week but hung up as soon as I heard the recording in Korean. I really hope I didn't get charged for something. |

There has been numerous complaints about phone scams through international numbers recently
The most common method is a voice recording in Korean claiming that some packages are being sent from overseas and press 9 to confirm and be connected to an operator
However, to be actually billed, you have to
1) agree for the call collect call
2) follow the instructions in Korean and press certain numbers to be connected to someone
Just hang up the phone when you hear a Korean recording or a funny Korean accent since most scams originate from China
The other type of phone scams is where someone calls you and hangs up immediately
They then fleece you when you call back to confirm who called by charging outrageous rates for that outgoing call |
