I want to get a new digital camera and I'm probably looking at the Canon PowerShot SX130 IS or the SX210 IS.
I'm heading home to Vancouver on Friday for a week so I'm debating whether or not to pick one up when I'm in Canada. It looks like the cheapest I can find them there is $200 and $300 respectively.
I've never looked at cameras in Korea, so I have no idea what they cost here, but I get the impression that they're probably heavily taxed like many foreign electronics. As I live in a small city in Gangwondo rather than Seoul, I won't have a chance to check out any of the big electronics stores in Yongsan before I head back.
So do any of you camera guys know if I have a chance of beating those prices here, or should I pick it up in Vancouver?
Thanks |

unless you buy a Korean brand camera, it will probably be slightly more expensive
From what I can see so far, sx130 is 200$ and sx210 is 300$ in the US in one of the cheapest online retailers, which means it'll be a little more expensive in Canada and somewhat more expensive in places like e-mart or costco here.
You can however buy them quite cheap on Gmarket or in Yongsan market if you have good bargaining skills
this is probably the cheapest you'll find in Korea:
http://item.gmarket.co.kr/detailview/Item.asp?goodscode=182925109&pos_shop_cd=SH&pos_class_cd=111111111&pos_class_kind=T&keyword_seqno=56623818&search_keyword=sx210
includes a 4gb SD card, so it's a great deal
honestly though, if you're going to come back to Korea, buy it here so at least you can have some sort of a warranty and can get it served right away.
if you're moving back to Canada, buy it there (tho dont forget the hefty tax you have to pay on top of the product price)
Also if you do decide to buy it online and ship it here, the possible customs charge won't be so bad because you're basically paying the 14% sales tax you would pay in Canada anyway.
So conclusion? buy it anywhere:) you're not saving that much. look at the other features like warranty/potential resell value etc... |
