If a person works a number of years in the academy system, and then decides they want to take a job at a public school, what happens to their years of academy teaching experience?
Is it looked down upon by the school administration?
Can it be used as leverage in salary negotiations? |

It will usually get you a one level pay/grade bump.

Thanks for the quick response. Is it always a one level bump, or does the number of years ever change this? |

that would be how well you could market yourself to the prospective school.
Most of the time, one year or five, means a 1 level (not level 1) pay bump.

K-12 school positions/scales are pretty much written in stone.
If you have "A" then you get "1"
If you have "A" + "B" then you get "2"
If you have "A" + "B" + "C" then you get "3".
etc.
Have a look and see where you are. They are public information.
