I'm thinking of having my brother back home in the US send me some of my stuff, including a box set of DVDs of a TV show.
I remember a while back when he sent me my used Sony eBook reader, customs charged me a 50,000 won import tax on that thing, even though it was not in the box, and showed obvious signs of wear from being used. Sad thing is, I had bought the eBook reader 2 years before that on ebay for $100 or so.
Is customs going to charge me again for my DVD set? They're all in their cases and in the original box it came in... but it's obviously not new.
If so, how much? |

Do you have a region free player? If not, they won't play anyway.

They are American DVDs playing in an American laptop, so region coding is not an issue. |

IF the package is less than 150k won in value (shipping included) they won't charge customs and duty.
If it is more than that then they will. http://www.customs.go.kr/ .
Another option, unless you are looking to "collect" the physical box set might be to just have your brother make a disk image (nero (among others) works fine) and upload that to you.

With shipping included... hardly seems fair, seeing as how standard EMS costs $45-50...
I don't really need to collect the actual DVDs, as they are mine and I guess I'll have access to it if/when I make a trip back to the US... but it's 40 DVD's long so I can't in good conscience ask him to rip all those ISOs and upload them to my computer.
Thanks for the info. |
