His creator was a meek and mild jewish Canadian kid fantasizing about a character that appears to be meek and mild but really is super underneath.

So renouncing U.S. citizenship and speaking to the United Nations is apt.

Superman doesn't need US citizenship. He's not like the rest of us. The UN will give him special powers.

Is Clark Kent still an American citizen? Was Superman ever really just an American? I thought he was a world citizen.
As a side, Red Son was AMAZING (from the opinion of someone who doesn't really follow Superman, granted.)

No he doesn't. He's renouncing his citizenship because countries were taking his actions as a plot by the US government. He even says so in the panel that he is tired of his actions being construed as part of a US plan. He's mostly being pragmatic.
