|
|
My GEPIK contract is about to end, and I was not given the option to renew due to budget cuts eliminating the NET position at my school. I do not want to return to the US just yet and was lucky enough to find a new contract starting the day after my current one is up. I do, however, want to visit home during summer vacation (more than 10 days after the end of my current contract). I have an F4 visa, so I do not need to go to Japan to renew it as I would if I had an E2. Am I just out of luck with both schools as far as airfare is concerned? |

I could be wrong, but I don't think this is a visa issue (F or E). I would say, yes, you won't get airfare with the new school for coming to Korea since you are already in Korea.
However, with the school you are leaving, they do owe a flight home based on the contract. So, I would first try to negotiate with them. See if they are willing to give you like 800,000 or 900,000. This is less than an actual flight home. If they refuse, then make them pay for a flight and simply don't go on it. It will cost them more.
Morally speaking though, the flight home is meant to be just a flight home. It isn't intended to be extra income for you to pocket. If they treated you well, and you have had no problems with them maybe you should just forget any of the airfare until you actually are ready to go home. |

It specifically depends on which version of the contract you were under.
Airfare is strictly a contractual matter.
If your contract says you have to leave within 10 days then you are out of luck.
If your contract has the exit allowance rather than airfare reimbursement then you have a fighting chance.
