|
|
Hi guys,
Want to see some of the celebrations for Buddha's Birthday and was wondering where is the best place to do it.
I have heard of a procession near Cheongchong(?) stream. Have also heard of a lantern festival but can't get solid information on either.
Finally, would it be worth going to a temple and if so, which one and when? Is there one particular temple that will hold the most/biggest celelbrations in Seoul?
Thanks. |

You probably couldn't go wrong by going to Jogyesa. There's another big one near Co-Ex, prettier but not as important a temple. |

I too was curious about what would be the best temples for this special day.
Would it be better to go to Busan or Gyeongju?
I like the temples in both places, I just want to go to the place with the most decorations and celebrations. |

The lantern festival was over by the time you posted. Buddha's birthday is also now ending ... for future years, get out of Seoul and to a mountain temple if at all possible, the scene at Jogyesa was really depressing (too crowded and commercialized), though Bongwonsa was gorgeous and not overrun, as usual. |

Thanks guys.
Posted on Sunday and the lantern procession was over at that stage. It was on Saturday.
Really pissed off that I missed it. 2 Koreans told me it would be on the Sunday or Monday.
Went on Sunday anyway and while it was ok, I'd say the real sight was to be seen on Saturday. Thanks for the replies. |
